Biography - Helen Halliday
Helen was brought up on the north-east coast where
the vivid experiences of light and space, sea and land
made a lasting impression on her. She has studied
painting with professional artists in the UK and USA,
and has recently graduated in Fine Art at Hertfordshire
University. She has achieved awards in several national
art competitions, has taken part in Channel 4’s
Watercolour Challenge, and has exhibited widely.
"My work always begins with intense studies from nature,
allowing the subject to dictate my response – it could
be a simple effect of light, a combination of colours or
shapes, or a mood or atmosphere. Some work is completed
on site, but some is a starting point for further
exploration in paint or print. As the work develops in
the studio it creates its own dynamic and the end result
is often dictated as much by the process and the
materials as by the original idea. Although based near
London I often return to the coast to paint."
