After many years working as a studio artist and illustrator in Britain and abroad, Kirk helped establish the BigArt Internet-based art gallery. A central maxim for Kirk’s motivation and excitement in the project was the conviction that people need art in their lives – though some of us may not yet realize how much we need it – Art really is ‘no longer an option’ in the 21st century!

Julian Kirk was a semi-finalist in Channel Five competition Big Art Challenge – “Lunchtime, Noboribetsu Noodle Restaurant, Hokkaido, Japan” featured on the programme. Art critic and competition judge Brian Sewell was impressed with the way Kirk had painted it with “old fashioned aplomb”.

Hi Julian,

A voice from the distant past – well, an email anyway! You may remember we did Jaguar business back in the 1990s when yiou were in Canterbury and also met at your stall at Jaguar 75 in Town Thorns near Coventry.

I’m still involved in Jaguar automobilia and I’m trying to track down a copy of your print with a French onion seller weaving along the road home with a Jaguar racer looming over the crest of the hill behind him.

A very long shot I know, but would you have a copy tucked away in a drawer somewhere?

Fingers crossed!

Ian

Julian,
Do you still produce small motoring based cartoons or illustrations? I own your original Jaguar D Type in the pits cartoon which I bought from you many years ago. I just wish I had the money then to buy some more of your great work.
