Biography - Gina Koltonowska
"I
think of myself as a ‘young artist’ born in Warsaw,
Poland and graduated as Interior Designer, followed by
post graduated education studies of Art and Design at De
Montfort University in Leicester, after which I have
been teaching till present day.
I started painting 4 years ago when time and place was
right, having experienced many years of teaching art and
design to children with severe and profound learning
difficulties and realizing that for some children art is
the only means of communication and expression. It is
without any doubt and more, as I discovered that it
motives and inspires me to develop artistically and to
address some of my personal needs.
My passion for watercolours, mixed media, batik, mono
printing, 3-dimensional work, acrylics, textiles and
other techniques grows with each piece of work and
stimulates my creativity to go on to continuum. I am
always interested in new materials, techniques and
different cultures which take me to many different
dimensions of art and encourage me to communicate. These
keep me fresh minded and make me feel young at heart
which is often reflected in the fresh, youthful and
bright colours that I use to express, and themes that I
enjoy and keep me fascinated.
Over the past two years I have had several local
exhibitions in England as well as in Europe – in Poland,
Slovakia, Netherlands and Italy. The latter exhibition
is the 2nd International Biennial Pastel exhibition
which is currently traveling in Europe over two years.
I’m also taking part in an exhibition ‘Art for Peace in
Europe’ sponsored by UNESCO which is taking place in
Serbia in March 2005 and then also will be traveling to
Italy."
